South Yorkshire to see more than 100 new bobbies on the beat

There will soon be over 100 new officers on the streets, across South Yorkshire.

Changes to Community Support Officers have been announced - which will mean fewer PCSOs.

Chief Constable David Hartley says it'll mean re-balancing the workforce, rather than any job cuts. "We are very much supporting our remaining PCSOs - of which there will be 116 - so they have the right shift system, right visibility and the right core purpose", he said.

"What they are going to have alongside them now is a much bigger team of police officers who are going to be able to go and take action on the things that matter most to our communities."
