Friday Blog:- Great news for Live in Barnsley & more!

Amazing news from Live in Barnsley – the town centre music festival is up for four UK Festival Awards. They're nominated for Best Small Festival, Best Grassroots Festival, Best Metropolitan and Best Festival for Emerging Talent. It's the most they've ever been nominated for.

Big Better Barnsley news! There'll be a 600 seat dining area called Market Kitchen will be part of the new market hall development. It'll feature up to ten food outlets, including the existing market cafés.

Lots of work has gone into the big Age Friendly Barnsley conference that's on today at the Priory Campus – the hope is it'll give older people a voice, so we know how we can help them in our communities.

I mentioned earlier in the week that the Google Digital Garage bus had been in Barnsley handing out tips for businesses to get online – it was a real success, dozens of local entrepreneurs turned out for help. Today it's in Wath at Tesco from 11, sessions on social media, digital marketing and staying safe online.

It's sad to hear that Goldthorpe's Job Centre is closing – lots of what they do is moving online or into smaller community hubs. Hopefully it doesn't have a major impact for job seekers and the building on High Street doesn't stay empty for too long.

The Nicholson family of Cannon Hall Farm were in London last night for a glitzy ceremony, the Farmers Weekly Awards. Unfortunately, they didn't win the category that they were nominated for which saluted the diversification of the farm. It's still a wonderful achievement to be up for the award.

This is genius, like a Blue Peter project – Owd Martha's Yard, the community garden in Hoyland, is creating an eco-greenhouse from two litre plastic drinks bottles. They've been in touch to ask for more empty bottles to complete their project, they're also on the lookout for new volunteers.

Don't forget the new location for Mr Fox's Fire Dance, it's the Wortley Mens Club tomorrow from 8.30pm – from the people that saw the dance at RSPB Old Moor a fortnight ago, I'm told we're in for a real treat.

There's another busy weekend ahead in Elsecar, there are tours of the village, open days at the New Colliery and Newcomen Beam Engine, history sessions and a big auction on too.

Train spotters assemble – there's another steam train passing through Swinton, Goldthorpe, Thurnscoe and Bolton-upon-Dearne tomorrow. The Tornado will come through on the way to York, expect it to pass through at around ten to ten.

It's best foot forward in Penistone on Sunday – there's a circular walk to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support starting at the British Legion at 9.30. There's a fourteen mile and seven mile walk with a bushtucker trial or two on the way!

One of those Crafty Makers Markets is on in Penistone Market Barn on Sunday – local people doing amazing crafts, selling their products.

John Stones was part of the England team which won 1-0 in the borefest against Slovenia last night, we've qualified for the World Cup next year. If you'd like to book the time off work for the tournament, it starts on the 14th of June… England will be out by the 21st!

With the Reds out of action due to the internationals, it's non-league day tomorrow where fans of bigger clubs are invited to support their local non-league team. Shaw Lane are at Barwell, Athersley Rec host Pickering Town, Penistone Church are away at Handsworth Parramore, Worsbrough Bridge go to Armthorpe.

Darfield's Robbie Barrett defends his British lightweight boxing championship against Lewis Ritson in Manchester tomorrow.

Top news for Jacob yesterday – he got his first reward at nursery, a certificate and a tub of bubbles. He's been kind, shared with other children, been helpful and used listening ears very well. I did have to check if it was the other Jacob in his class!

I'd never thought of doing this – my Auntie and Uncle live in America, it costs a packet to post birthday cards and stuff out to them. For our anniversary, my Auntie ordered a card for us online from a company in Suffolk! It's cost her loads less than it would have done to post a card.

We're eating out but eating healthy tomorrow… I'm going to be that nightmare customer that asks for changes to the menu items. Just a warning for the waiters and waitresses!
