Government savings scheme has low take up in Barnsley

Less than 50 people in Barnsley, on low incomes, have taken advantage of a Government backed saving scheme.

"Help to Save" rewards those receiving working tax credit, child tax credit or universal credit with the account by giving them an extra 50p for every pound they put away.

In Barnsley, pepole have saved in total less than £4,000 through the scheme - that's compared to over £80,000 in Doncaster.
