Barnsley Town Centre Races

Join us on Friday 20 July 2018 for the Barnsley Town Centre Races. Organised by Barnsley Road Club and Barnsley Council, the course around the centre of town includes races for children, youths and elite competitors.

You'll see some of the most talented cyclists in the region go wheel to wheel in front of thousands of spectators, and there's also the opportunity to experience the course for yourself during the community ride.

Stay in the loop with the race on social media with the hashtag #BarnsleyCrit and on Facebook and Twitter.
The Women’s HSBC UK | National Road Race Series will see the inclusion of Dame Sarah Storey’s team ‘TeamStorey Racing’ and the return of Nicola Juniper who won the National Criterium Championships in Barnsley back in 2015, with her self-named team NJC Biemme

Friday 20 July will be an evening full of action-packed racing, but before that, at 4.30pm there will be a fantastic opportunity for riders of all abilities to ride around the 1.1km course for up to 45 minutes. Last year saw many children and parents, as well as cycling fans, ride around the closed circuit course at their own pace. All that’s required is a bike and a helmet.

The racing action will then commence at 5.30pm with the under 12 Boys & Girls race, following this will be the under 14 & 16’s, the Regional A race and then at 7.40pm the HSBC | National Women's Series will start with the HSBC | Men's National Circuit Series starting at 8.45pm. the latter two races will see TV cameras record the action which will be shown on Eurosport four days later.

The race, jointly hosted by Barnsley Road Club and the council, will attract a large crowd to the town centre who will be able to make the most of their evening in many of the bars and restaurants around the town centre. The event provides a fantastic opportunity for many of the new businesses which have recently opened to attract the crowd and families through their doors.

The community ride is open for all and anybody can register for the race at
